Opportunities and Evan Almighty

I was up and out this morning, going for a long walk and sometimes as I talk to Jesus I just stop talking and listen to what starts to come to my heart. I started praying for my children and was praying that God would give them courage and strength and faith and wisdom etc... and every time I pray for my children I never fail to see that what I want for them is what God wants for me. So I began to ponder all those things (courage, strength, faith, wisdom....) in light of where they fall in my life. I remembered then of the clip in "Evan Almighty" where Morgan Freeman (GOD) says," If you pray for patience, Does God give you patience or does He give opportunities to BE patient". Then I thought about how many times I've asked God to give me things like patience and I always feel like I'm waiting for Him to give it to me, all the while, I'm not taking advantage of the opportunities to BE patient. Is faith just simply believing or are we using it everytime we have the opportunity to BE faith-ful. Is having hope just simply knowing that something good is on the way or are we showing hope to those who are hoping by taking advantage of the opportunity to BE hope-ful. Is love simply the thing that every human being longs to have but feels like its hard to find or are we making it very easy to find by seizing the opportunity to Be love-ing. I was challenged to adjust how I perceive the answer to prayer. If you pray for patience, you'll know you possess it when you take advantage of the opportunity to BE patient. Then you will look up to heaven and say, "Thank You God for answered prayer.........

Broken - Servants

Today I was listening to a podcast from Grace Church in Nashville, Tn and Pastor Lindell Cooley. I was struck by a comment he said about brokeness. He said," Unbelievers reject Arrogant believers but Unbelievers run to Broken believers". There is something to be said of those that go through the process of brokeness. Sometimes this process and the results of this process are truly the greatest revival ever known to man because it's the personal work of God going deep into the hardest places of your heart so that you can bear the fruits and nature of Christ. So, how does one become broken? Lindell said one way is to make yourself vulnerable to another in service. Becoming a servant. As a music pastor of several years, you don't think that you have any issues with serving someone until that someone expects certain things from you that "Aren't Your cup Of Tea". Eating the dessert first is what most all of us wish we could start the meal eating but we understand that as a result of living in a family with parents we can not eat what we want until we eat what we need. Serving someone else is not natural to us as human beings, especially because we live in a self-serving society. So when we serve, we are really; in a way, becoming broken. It was interesting that before I listened to this podcast I was reading John 2 about Jesus turning the water into wine. I didn't see this until after the podcast but in John 2:9 the master of the banquet did not know where the miracle came from but it was the SERVANTS that knew where the miracle come from. I guess it pays to be a servant. Not only do you become broken as a servant but you also know where the miracles come from......
